Former Today show host Matt Lauer made headlines once again after attending the wedding of former show producer Jennifer Long in New York City. This marks the first public appearance Lauer has made with several of his former coworkers since his firing back in 2017 following accusations of sexual misconduct.
Lauer, 65, was spotted at the wedding wearing a black suit, alongside his girlfriend Shamin Abas. Current Today anchors Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, and Al Roker were also in attendance, as well as former GMA3 journalists Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes. Lauer joined Today in 1994 and became one of the hosts shortly after, until his firing in 2017.
Following his firing, journalist Ronan Farrow claimed in his 2019 book that Lauer had assaulted a coworker. Lauer has since kept a relatively low profile, though it was reported in July 2022 that he was still “clamoring for a comeback” and was hopeful about a potential podcast deal. Lauer’s ex-wife, Annette Roque, filed for divorce in July 2019 amid the fallout from the scandal, and the pair share three kids.
Lauer’s public appearance alongside former coworkers has sparked speculation about a potential comeback for the disgraced host, though it remains to be seen if this will come to fruition.
