President Joe Biden has warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel is losing international support due to the war in Gaza. He criticized the Israeli government’s post-war vision, calling it the most conservative in Israel’s history and expressing the need for a long-term solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Biden’s remarks came after Netanyahu stated that they have failed to reach an agreement on the future of Gaza after the defeat of Hamas, with Netanyahu opposing any role for the Palestinian Authority in the region. In contrast, the Biden administration supports a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians. Despite standing in solidarity with Israel following a Hamas attack in October, Biden warned Israel to “be careful” at a Hanukkah event at the White House. He urged Netanyahu to make changes and find a solution, as the Israeli government’s actions are making it very difficult to move forward and Israel is starting to lose support globally. Netanyahu hopes for an agreement on the “day after Hamas.” This direct criticism of the Israeli government by President Biden comes as a shift from his previous support for the country and its military actions.
