Naomi Elkins, a 27-year-old mother from Lakewood, New Jersey, has been charged with killing her two toddlers, aged 1 and 3. Police responded to a report of the children in cardiac arrest and found them dead at the scene. The children had been drowned, and the younger victim had also been stabbed. Elkins has been charged with two counts of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. She is being held without bail and is scheduled for a detention hearing on Monday. Elkins is married and holds a master’s degree. The motive for the crime is not yet known, and further information about the case has not been released by authorities. Lakewood, where the incident occurred, has a large Orthodox Jewish population and is located about 37 miles east of Trenton, the state’s capital.
