Exploring Hot Springs County: Wyoming Historical Society’s Excursion


The 70th Annual Trek of the Wyoming Historical Society took place in Hot Springs County, Wyoming, with over 150 participants visiting historic locations. Presentations included a downtown walking tour, discussions on Owen Wister and Lester Hunt, and a special blessing by members of the Shoshone and Arapahoe Tribes. The event kicked off with a reception and live entertainment at the Hole in the Wall Bar. Attendees then visited an historic cabin and heard stories of sheep ranching in the area.

On Saturday, the group traveled to Anchor Dam, the Arapahoe Ranch, Legend Rock Petroglyphs, the ghost town of Gebo, and the historic Kirby Jail. The Wyoming Historical Society’s 70th Annual Trek concluded with a dinner overlooking Hot Springs State Park.

The event provided attendees with a unique opportunity to learn about the history and culture of Hot Springs County, Wyoming. The 71st Annual Trek will be held in Converse County in 2025. The event was a successful celebration of Wyoming’s rich history and heritage, bringing together people from around the state and the United States to explore and learn about the historical sites in the region.
