Bronny James, son of NBA star LeBron James, was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday, potentially making them the first father-son duo to play on the same team at the same time in NBA history. Despite not being called in the first round, the Lakers picked Bronny at No. 55 in round two. Bronny expressed gratitude in an Instagram post for being drafted by the Lakers. He had a brief college career at the University of Southern California, including a setback due to a congenital heart defect, but was cleared to play and eventually returned to the court.
LeBron James, who has until Saturday to decide on his future with the Lakers, has previously talked about the possibility of playing alongside his son. While there have been other father-son duos in the NBA, such as Dell and Steph Curry, none have played on the court together simultaneously. Despite his age of 39, LeBron remains a top player in the NBA and has evolved into a strong 3-point shooter, with a shooting percentage surpassing the league average and even outperforming Steph Curry in that category. While the prospect of father and son playing together for the Lakers is exciting for fans, LeBron has recently downplayed the idea of making it a reality.
