Sha’carri Richardson and Gabby Thomas set to compete in the 200-meter final

Sha’carri Richardson and Gabby Thomas, two of America’s top sprinters, will compete in the highly anticipated 200-meter final at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for track and field in Oregon. Richardson equaled her personal best time of 21.92 seconds in the semifinals, while Thomas ran a blazing 21.78, the world’s best for 2024. The women’s 200-meter final is set to take place on Saturday evening, along with the men’s final featuring world No. 1 and 2 Noah Lyles and Kenny Bednarek.

Earlier this week, Richardson won the 100 meters, securing her spot in the Paris Olympics as she aims to become the “fastest woman in the world.” Despite facing backlash for testing positive for THC before the Tokyo Games, Richardson remains focused on her goal of winning medals for the USA in Paris. Thomas, who took bronze in the 200 in Tokyo, is also aiming to qualify for the 100 and 200 in Paris.

Other finals set for Saturday at the trials in Eugene include the men’s and women’s 20K race walk, men’s discus, women’s long jump, women’s shot put, and women’s 10,000 meters. The shot put competition will feature Tokyo silver medalist Raven Saunders, who is looking to make her third Olympic appearance. Overall, the trials are shaping up to be an exciting and competitive event as athletes vie for a chance to represent the USA in the upcoming Olympics.
