Former soldier Kyle Clifford, 26, has been charged with the crossbow murder of three women at their home in Hertfordshire in July. The victims were identified as Carol Hunt and her daughters, Louise and Hannah Hunt. Clifford, who served in the British army, also faces charges of false imprisonment and possession of offensive weapons.
Clifford was found in a cemetery in Enfield with injuries and was unable to be interviewed by police until he had received treatment in the hospital. After questioning, he was charged and remanded into custody. Clifford appeared at Westminster magistrates court where the charges were read out.
The court heard that Clifford is accused of murdering the three women, possession of a 10-inch butcher’s knife, possession of a crossbow, and false imprisonment. Louise Hunt was found tied to a chair when officers attended the property. Louise and Hannah were shot with a crossbow, while Carol was stabbed with a knife and suffered multiple injuries.
The chief magistrate remanded Clifford in custody, stating that the charges will be heard at the crown court. DCI Nick Gardner expressed sympathy for the Hunt family and highlighted the hard work done to establish the full circumstances surrounding the murders.
John Hunt, husband of Carol and father of Louise and Hannah, along with his daughter Amy, expressed devastation over the loss. Lisa Ramsarran of the Crown Prosecution Service Thames and Chiltern also offered condolences to the Hunt family and those affected by the tragedy.
