The explosions on Wednesday targeted walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah, after pagers detonated the previous day, injuring thousands. Israeli strikes on a school building in Gaza have killed five people, with the military targeting Hamas militants.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights called for accountability for the Lebanon explosions, which caused 460 people to require surgery. In a joint press conference, Egypt’s foreign minister stated Hamas’s commitment to a ceasefire agreement. The EU expressed concern over the Lebanon attacks and urged all parties to avoid escalation.
Hungarian entities denied producing the pagers used in the Lebanon explosions, despite Taiwanese company statements. Irish and EU officials condemned the attacks for endangering civilians. US Secretary of State Blinken stated progress on 15 of 18 paragraphs of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, while also stating the US is still gathering facts about the Lebanon explosions. Egypt’s foreign minister ruled out changes to border security arrangements with Gaza.
