Everytown, a gun safety group, funnels $9 million into state legislative races

Everytown for Gun Safety’s political arm is planning to spend $9 million to support Democratic candidates in state legislative races in Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania. This investment in digital and TV ads is part of the group’s broader $45 million spending plan for the election cycle. The goal is to flip legislative chambers in key states to pass life-saving gun safety legislation.

The group is targeting specific candidates in each state, such as running ads against Republican Pamela Carter in Arizona, Republican Ron Robinson in Michigan, and supporting Democrat Julie Greene in Minnesota. Everytown’s campaign is part of a larger effort by outside groups, including the States Project, Forward Majority, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, the Democratic National Committee, and the American Civil Liberties Union, to help Democrats gain or maintain control of legislative chambers in battleground states.

Everytown for Gun Safety President John Feinblatt emphasized the importance of electing gun sense champions at the state level, as many national gun safety laws originate from state legislation. The group’s strategy focuses on informing voters about candidates’ positions on gun safety to ensure their schools and communities are kept safe from gun violence. With the fate of key issues like gun safety at stake in November’s election, Everytown is working to make its voice heard in state legislative races.
