A man named James Provost was killed by several pit bull mixed dogs in a backyard in Albany, New York. The police are investigating whether charges are warranted in this case. The attack occurred on Wednesday evening when up to nine mixed-breed pit bulls attacked Provost. An officer at the scene shot and killed one of the dogs, causing the others to disperse. The homeowner, who is different from the dogs’ caretaker, does not reside at the residence where the dogs were kept. Investigators found 24 pit bulls at the home, 15 of which were puppies, and they were taken by the humane society. It is unclear why there were so many dogs at the residence or how they ended up in a neighboring yard. The district attorney’s office will determine whether criminal charges are applicable in this case. In May, a search warrant was executed at the residence due to suspected drug activity, and some of the dogs were turned over to the humane society at that time. The fate of the remaining dogs, some of which are unlicensed, will be decided by another authority, who will determine if they should be released or euthanized. The police investigation into this incident is ongoing.
