Former President Donald Trump has called for the use of the death penalty against migrants who kill U.S. citizens and law enforcement officers during a campaign rally in Reno, Nevada. This statement was also made earlier in the day during a rally in Aurora, Colorado. Trump has previously advocated for the death penalty for human and drug traffickers as well. The former president’s anti-immigrant rhetoric has been increasing as he aims to defeat Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, by portraying noncitizens entering the U.S. as a threat to Americans. In Aurora, Trump claimed he would “rescue” the city from migrants who he described as having invaded and conquered it. He also accused Harris of allowing an “army of illegal alien gang members and migrant criminals” to enter the U.S. and destroy cities like Aurora. However, the Republican Mayor of Aurora, Mike Coffman, disputed these claims, stating that they were not accurate. Trump has made similar unfounded claims about immigrants causing violence in other states, such as in Springfield, Ohio, where he falsely stated that Haitian immigrants were eating local pets. Despite local officials denying these claims, Trump is continuing to use anti-immigrant rhetoric in his campaign efforts.
