Trump slams judge presiding over his Jan. 6 case as ‘the most evil person’

Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump criticized U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan and special counsel Jack Smith in a podcast with Dan Bongino, calling them “the most evil person” and “a sick puppy,” respectively. Trump slammed Judge Chutkan for releasing redacted documents related to the Jan. 6-related federal criminal case against him, which he claimed was election interference. The documents revealed that Smith’s team is relying on information from the House Jan. 6 Committee, which dissolved after the Democrats lost the House in 2022.

Trump expressed frustration with the judge selection process and accused both Judge Chutkan and special counsel Jack Smith of injustices against him. He referenced previous threats made against Judge Chutkan and Smith by his supporters, highlighting the heightened security measures taken to protect them.

Jack Smith’s case against Trump includes allegations of conspiracy to defraud the United States, obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights, to which Trump has pleaded not guilty. One key aspect of Smith’s case is the argument that Trump knowingly spread false information about the 2020 election. Despite Trump’s attempts to delay and dismiss the case, Judge Chutkan has proceeded with the litigation, recently denying most of Trump’s requests for additional discovery.

In response to the release of redacted documents, Trump criticized Judge Chutkan for allegedly timing the disclosure close to the upcoming election. The ongoing legal battle continues to play out as Trump faces multiple charges related to the Capitol riot on January 6.
