The University of Wyoming wrestling team is set to kick off the 2024-25 season with a unique dual against Campbell at the Dual at the Daddy event in Cheyenne. The event, taking place at Frontier Park on the grounds of Cheyenne Frontier Days, will be broadcast exclusively on UFC Fight Pass and is invite-only due to space restrictions. Last year, Campbell emerged victorious at the Battle in the Barn, but Wyoming is looking for redemption with a more experienced team this season.
Key players to watch for Wyoming include Jore Volk, Gabe Willochell, and Joey Novak, who all had successful seasons last year. Transfer Jared Hill from Oklahoma is also expected to make an impact. Campbell, preseason favorites in the SoCon Conference, return several NCAA Championship competitors including Domenic Zaccone, Dom Baker, and Taye Ghadiali.
After the dual with Campbell, Wyoming will face Western Wyoming in Laramie on November 9, which will also feature bonus matches between members of the team. Head coach Mark Branch is optimistic about his team’s chances this season, emphasizing the importance of confidence and pride in their performance. The event marks a unique opportunity to showcase college wrestling to a national and world audience, setting the stage for an exciting and competitive season ahead.
