The U.S. Forest Service has announced that the Elk Fire in Sheridan County, Wyoming has reached over 98,000 acres in size, with 82% containment. Helicopters have been dropping water on the fire to assist with containment efforts. Highway 14 from Dayton to Burgess Junction has now been reopened for travel. Air operations with helicopters and airtankers are ongoing to support firefighters on the ground. For those affected by evacuations, Sheridan County Emergency Management can be contacted at 307-752-2174. Evacuees in need of a place to take livestock or stay in a camper can go to the Sheridan County Fairgrounds.
