Democratic lawmakers express concern after receiving bomb threats against their homes during Thanksgiving

Democratic Members of Congress in Connecticut Targeted by Bomb Threats

Five Democratic members of Congress from Connecticut, including Senator Chris Murphy and Representatives Jim Himes, Joe Courtney, John Larson, and Jahana Hayes, were targeted by bomb threats at their homes on Thursday. The lawmakers reported the threats, but police found no evidence of explosives on their properties. There was no immediate information on whether other Democratic politicians in the state received threats.

The bomb threats came a day after several of President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet picks and appointees also reported receiving threats and “swatting attacks,” which involve falsely initiating emergency law enforcement responses against victims. Representatives like Murphy and Himes had their homes targeted, but law enforcement agencies found no actual threat.

Lawmakers expressed gratitude for the quick response of law enforcement and emphasized the need for peace and civility, stating that there is no place for political violence in the country. The FBI is currently investigating the incidents in collaboration with other agencies.

The threats add to a climate of political violence, which has been seen in previous incidents during the election season. Law enforcement agencies are actively working to ensure the safety of elected officials and prevent further threats in the future.
