New casebook showcases cutting-edge technology in addressing construction errors

The Get It Right Initiative has released its 2024 Technology Report showcasing how the construction and technology sectors are working together to enhance productivity, quality, safety, and sustainability. The report highlights major projects such as HS2’s Colne Valley viaduct, San Francisco International Airport, and London’s Western Yard’s development, where innovative technologies like virtual and augmented reality, Internet of Things sensors, and Digital Twin technology are being used to improve project design, planning, and monitoring.

The report builds on previous research by GIRI, which identified 17 root causes of error in construction and provided technology solutions to address them. With a focus on reducing errors and improving productivity, the report features best practice case studies demonstrating how technology tools are being successfully implemented in construction projects.

GIRI, a membership group of over 100 UK construction industry experts, is actively collaborating to reduce errors in the sector. The Technology Working Group within GIRI brings together technology providers and industry leaders to share, test, and learn from technology solutions tailored to the challenges faced in construction.

According to GIRI Executive Director, Cliff Smith, the effective implementation of digital tools requires a combination of technology, people, and processes. The report aims to inspire design and construction firms to adopt digital tools while encouraging technology providers to continue developing new solutions.

Report author and chair of GIRI’s Technology Working Group, John Priestland, highlights the real-world examples of technology in use in the report, showcasing the effectiveness of these tools and driving learning and innovation in the industry. The 2024 GIRI Technology Report can be downloaded from the Get It Right Initiative website.
