Dentist from Colorado suspected of poisoning his wife’s protein shakes attempted to murder detective, according to authorities

A Colorado dentist, James Craig, who was previously charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Angela Craig, is now facing new charges of solicitation to commit first-degree murder and solicitation to commit perjury. The latest charges focus on allegations that Craig attempted to have a detective involved in the case killed. Records show that Craig was in jail with an inmate he allegedly solicited to commit the murder. The detective was involved in investigating Angela Craig’s death, which was initially thought to have been caused by poisoning with arsenic and cyanide, but later determined to be from cyanide and tetrahydrozoline.

Authorities have pointed to Craig’s internet search history, which included inquiries about arsenic detection in autopsies. They also noted that Craig had ordered potassium cyanide online before his wife’s death and had it delivered to his dental practice, which raised suspicions among his business partners. Despite these pieces of evidence, Craig’s lawyer had previously argued that there was no direct evidence linking him to his wife’s poisoning.

Due to a conflict, Craig’s lawyer withdrew from the case just before jury selection was set to begin in his trial. The lawyer cited concerns about Craig’s continued involvement in criminal or fraudulent activities. Jury selection has since been indefinitely postponed in light of the new charges and the departure of Craig’s former lawyer.
