Norfolk State Takes Down Cowgirl Offense

The Wyoming Cowgirl offense struggled in a 56-47 loss to Norfolk State during the Discover Puerto Rico San Juan Shootout. The Cowgirls got off to a strong start but were unable to maintain the lead as Norfolk State closed out both the first and second quarters strongly. Despite a solid effort from Allyson Fertig with a double-double in the first half, turnovers and poor free-throw shooting hindered Wyoming’s performance.

In the second half, the Cowgirls were unable to catch up to Norfolk State, with missed opportunities from beyond the arc and at the charity stripe. Fertig finished with an impressive 19 points and 21 rebounds, just shy of a 20-20 performance. Tess Barnes also contributed with 12 points and three 3-pointers.

Wyoming shot poorly from the free-throw line and beyond the arc, and turnovers proved costly as Norfolk State capitalized on the mistakes. Despite a rebounding advantage, the Cowgirls fell short in field goal percentage compared to NSU.

Looking ahead, Wyoming aims to bounce back in the final game of the San Juan Shootout against Virginia. The Cowgirls will face the challenge of playing three games in as many days, hoping to finish the tournament on a stronger note.
