Cheyenne and the Downtown Development Authority Collaborate to Create a Walkable City

The City of Cheyenne is focusing on maintaining the walkways in the downtown core to ensure they are safe and pedestrian-friendly. With some areas having walkways that are 40 to 50 years old and issues with ADA compliance, the city has developed a program that provides grant assistance to property owners for repairing damaged sidewalks. The program, which includes input from the downtown authority, property owners, and various city departments, earmarked $100,000 from a mill levy for grant assistance in April. Property owners can apply for the grant, which covers half the cost of repairs such as gutters and stamped and colored concrete. This initiative aims to relieve property owners of liability for accidents caused by damaged sidewalks and to make Cheyenne a safe and walkable city. The grant project has been ongoing since 2018, and with the downtown area seeing growth in pedestrian traffic and businesses, the city is dedicated to keeping the walkways well-maintained. For more information on the program, interested parties can visit the City of Cheyenne’s website.
