The University of Wyoming’s Teacher-Researcher Knowledge Exchange program has started its second year with a five-day institute in Pinedale. The program aims to connect science educators, researchers, and field instructors to bridge the gap between scientific research and effective science teaching and learning.
The event in Pinedale included field trips and hands-on learning experiences, such as stream water quality testing, to help educators and researchers better understand each other’s perspectives. Through collaboration, they developed science projects for students of all ages to foster interest in STEM subjects.
The success of the program is evident by the high number of teachers from the first cohort who applied for the second year. Future cohorts are planned for the Green River Basin and Wind River Basin in the coming years.
Participants in the program come from various communities across Wyoming, including Buffalo, Casper, Evanston, Green River, Jackson, Kelly, Lander, Laramie, Pinedale, Rock Springs, Sheridan, and the University of Wyoming.
By bringing teachers and researchers together, the TRKE program aims to enhance science education in Wyoming schools and create a lasting impact on students’ interest in science and technology.
