Wyoming Air National Guard troops sent on deployment to South America

Soldiers from the Wyoming Air National Guard were celebrated at a sendoff ceremony before their deployment to South America. The Soldiers, part of Detachment 6, Bravo Company, 2/245th Aviation Regiment, were honored by Governor Mark Gordon, Maj. General Greg Porter, and other military leaders. During the ceremony, Governor Gordon presented the unit with a Wyoming flag and an “Entering Wyoming” highway sign that will be displayed at their deployed headquarters. This tradition of giving signs to deploying units dates back to the Korean War.

Detachment 6 Commander CW5 Steven Higgins expressed his excitement to serve alongside his Soldiers and emphasized the importance of performing their mission professionally. The Soldiers are deploying to the U.S. Southern Command area of operations to provide safe and comfortable travel for service members in South America and the State Department. Governor Gordon, Maj. General Porter, and other military leaders praised the Soldiers for their service and expressed their admiration and support.

This deployment marks a shift from previous missions focused on surveillance and electronic warfare, as the unit will now be performing tasks similar to their operations in the U.S. The ceremony highlighted the unity and pride of the Wyoming National Guard as they prepared to embark on their mission to serve their country.
