Georgia Southern football coach Clay Helton has signed a new five-year deal with the team, as reported by ESPN. The contract extension will keep Helton with the Eagles through the 2029 season and includes a raise to an average of $1 million per year. Under Helton’s leadership, Georgia Southern has achieved a 20-19 record and made three bowl game appearances in the last three seasons. In 2024, the team finished with an 8-5 record, including a 6-2 record in the Sun Belt Conference, though they lost 31-26 to Sam Houston in the New Orleans Bowl. Prior to joining Georgia Southern, Helton coached at Southern California, where he achieved a 46-24 record and led the Trojans to five bowl appearances. With this new deal, Georgia Southern is looking to build on the successes they have experienced under Helton’s leadership and continue to strive for excellence in college football.
