Wyoming Behavioral Institute (WBI) has implemented a trauma-specific environment of care initiative to improve mental health services for patients and staff. All employees, including administrators and physicians, have been trained in trauma-informed care methods. The goal is to reduce employee turnover, improve patient satisfaction, and eliminate the use of hands-on interventions. The nursing team at WBI is now sharing their trauma-informed care knowledge with the community to address the high rates of suicide in Wyoming, especially among young people.
In addition to providing mental health services, WBI is also a partner in Project AWARE, an initiative to increase access to mental health services for school-aged youth. The institute offers trauma-informed support services to school districts to promote mental health awareness and resilience among students.
Community education in trauma-informed interactions is available for adults working with youth, including law enforcement, teachers, and parents. Inpatient and outpatient mental health services for children, teens, and adults are also provided by WBI in Casper. For more information about programs and services, interested individuals can contact WBI at 800-457-9312 or visit their website.
