Officials provide updates on Wyoming tunnel tragedy resulting in three fatalities

Three people have lost their lives in a fiery crash that occurred in Green River, Wyoming on Friday. Wyoming Highway Patrol officials provided an update on the incident, stating that all vehicles have been removed from the tunnel where the crash took place. One person died in the fire, while two others died in the crash. The crash started inside the tunnel and an off-duty trooper was involved in the rescue efforts.

A Wyoming woman named Daryn Macy is being treated for life-threatening injuries at the University of Utah Hospital. Officials believe weather conditions, including snowfall and rising temperatures causing slick spots, may have been a factor in the crash. The cause of the massive fire is still under investigation, with commercial carriers’ documents being reviewed for information.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation is aiming to reopen the eastbound tunnel on Wednesday with restrictions in place for oversized vehicles. The speed limit in the area may also be reduced to 35mph. The investigation into the crash is expected to take several months to complete, with the NTSB conducting a parallel investigation. The cleanup and assessment of the tunnel by WYDOT engineers are underway.
