Should a celebrity’s political beliefs be a factor of importance? | National

A recent survey conducted by Talker Research revealed that the majority of Americans do not want to know their favorite celebrity’s political affiliation. The study of 2,000 Americans found that 64% would not be interested in knowing whether their favorite singer or actor voted red or blue. In fact, 18% said they would stop being a fan if they found out their favorite celebrity had different political views.

Dr. Carole Lieberman, a psychiatrist-consultant for reality TV, explained that people prefer to envision their favorite celebrities in a special, politically-free world. The survey also found that over half of respondents do not want to know how their colleagues vote and think it is rude to ask. Younger Americans, especially Gen Z, are more open about their political views in the workplace.

The survey also highlighted differences among generations, with younger Americans being more likely to want to know their favorite celebrity’s political party affiliation and to stop being a fan if their politics differ. Dr. Lieberman suggested that people may be more hesitant to share their political views due to increased distrust in society.

The survey was conducted online by Talker Research and included various measures to ensure data quality and accuracy. While the results may not be generalizable to individuals without internet access, they provide valuable insights into Americans’ attitudes towards celebrities and politics.
