The University of Wyoming will be hosting a public celebration of the life of former U.S. Sen. Alan K. Simpson on March 29 at the Arena-Auditorium. Simpson, a prominent alumnus of the university, passed away on March 14 in Cody. The event, organized by the Simpson family, will also be simulcast on TV and streamed online by Wyoming PBS. In addition to the celebration at UW, two more memorial observances are planned in Cheyenne and Cody later in the month.
Simpson will lie in honor at the Wyoming State Capitol in Cheyenne on March 27 and 28, followed by a memorial service at Christ Episcopal Church in Cody on March 31. The Cody service will be broadcasted live to overflow venues at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. A public reception and open house at the Center of the West will follow the memorial service.
The Simpson family has requested that donations be made to the Center of the West, Spirit Mountain Hospice House, and the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation, in lieu of flowers. The family is grateful for the outpouring of support from the community and the numerous organizations involved in organizing events to celebrate Simpson’s life and legacy.
