Wyoming Valley Women’s Club marks 120 years of celebration – Wilkes-Barre Citizens’ Voice


The Wyoming Valley Women’s Club recently held their meeting at the Holiday Inn, East Mountain Inn to celebrate their 120th anniversary. The program featured presentations from Cindy Mitchell, Anna Elmir, Gayle Delano Slezak, Debbie Hannon, Mary Reynolds, and Sue Rivello, as well as a guest speaker, Tony Brooks, the executive director of the Wilkes-Barre Preservation Society. Brooks discussed historical landmarks in Wilkes-Barre and influential local figures.

During the meeting, Brooks also introduced a children’s book titled “Get Set. Get Ready: A Tour of Wilkes-Barre with Tony and Debi,” with proceeds from the book going towards providing copies to third graders as a fundraiser for the Osterhout Free Library. Hazel Markowski, the nomination chairperson, provided ballots for members to nominate ladies for the upcoming election in April 2025, while sign-up sheets were available for volunteering for next year’s meetings and committees.

Maureen Riley, the Scholarship Chairperson, provided an update on the Scholarship program. The meeting was a success with engaging presentations and discussions. The club looks forward to continuing their work within the community and supporting local initiatives.
