High school students from Wyoming showcase their writing talents and take home $45K prize at American Dream essay competition


The 2025 American Dream Essay Contest held in Casper, Wyoming, brought together over 800 students from 19 high schools to explore values and aspirations through writing. Inspired by the “Ten Principles to Live By” from James P. Owen’s “Cowboy Ethics,” students were tasked with reflecting on character development and the pursuit of the American Dream. Winners received a total of $45,900 in prizes, with first-place winners being awarded $5,000 each. Guest speaker Josh Kalinowski emphasized the importance of perseverance and courage in overcoming challenges. The contest, supported by sponsors like the Templeton Foundation and the Zimmerman Family Foundation, aims to help young people find their voice and values.
