Hudson River helicopter tour company suspends flights following fatal crash

The Federal Aviation Administration has grounded New York Helicopter Charter, the company responsible for the sightseeing tour that ended in a fatal crash in the Hudson River last week. The agency stated that the emergency order was issued due in part to the firing of the company’s director of operations. The crash, which occurred at 3:17 p.m. on Thursday, claimed the lives of Siemens executive Agustín Escobar, his wife, their three children, and pilot Sean Johnson. Following the crash, New York Helicopter Charter voluntarily ceased flights as the investigation continues. The FAA is also conducting a review of the company’s operations through the Certificate Holder Evaluation Program.
