Members of the Wyoming Air National Guard recently made history by successfully conducting the first cardiac evacuation from Antarctica in 35 years. The mission involved evacuating a 69-year-old contractor working at the McMurdo Station who had suffered a heart attack. The patient was safely transported to New Zealand for further medical treatment.
The Wyoming Air National Guard’s 153rd Airlift Wing used a C-130 aircraft to airlift the patient, accompanied by medical personnel, from Antarctica to Christchurch, New Zealand. This marked the first time such an evacuation had been carried out since 1986.
