Three people died in a boat crash on Lewis Smith Lake in Alabama during a fishing tournament on Wednesday morning. The crash occurred when a Nitro Bass Boat collided with a Center Console boat at 7:03 a.m. The incident happened on the second day of the Tackle Warehouse Invitational, which led to the cancellation of the tournament’s final day.
The victims were identified as Joey M. Broom, John K. Clark, and Jeffrey C. Little. Broom died from injuries sustained in the crash, while Clark and Little were thrown overboard and drowned. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is actively investigating the incident.
Major League Fishing, the organization behind the tournament, expressed their deepest condolences to those affected by the tragedy. Kathy Fennel, the MLF’s executive vice president and general manager, called the incident heartbreaking for their organization.
The tournament organizers canceled the remaining day of the competition due to the accident. The focus now is on supporting the families and individuals impacted by this tragic event.
