Cheyenne resident Joseph Kibler, a self-proclaimed “nobody,” has recently announced his candidacy for Governor of Wyoming in 2026. As the only declared candidate so far, he believes that starting early and being the only one running at this point will help him establish a statewide identity. Kibler is currently hosting town halls and meet-and-greets across the state to introduce himself to the voters. Despite acknowledging his long shot chances, he is determined to represent the everyday person in Wyoming and fight against what he sees as creeping big-state bureaucratic governance.
Kibler’s platform includes socially conservative views such as opposing green energy and abortion in all cases. He is particularly focused on property taxes and Second Amendment rights, advocating for a taxation system based on the purchase price of a home and clearer laws supporting gun rights. He also believes in revamping the traditional education system to address modern-day needs.
Although he has no prior political experience, Kibler sees himself as a difference maker and believes that leadership should come from individuals with common sense rather than extensive political knowledge. He is prepared to face tough competition in the upcoming election, especially if U.S. Rep. Harriet Hageman enters the race. Kibler admits that Hageman might be more suited for a lawmaker role, while he sees himself as a bold and concise leader for Wyoming. Despite the challenges ahead, Kibler remains committed to his grassroots campaign and representing the citizens of Wyoming.
