“Casper Housing Authority Overcomes Setback, Secures Funding for Volunteer Project”
In a turn of events that could have derailed their plans, the Casper Housing Authority faced disappointment when the AmeriCorps NCCC volunteers they were expecting had their program canceled by the Department of Government Efficiency. This news came just days before the volunteers were scheduled to arrive to help with the community garden and market project at the former North Casper Elementary School.
Despite this setback, the Casper Housing Authority, along with the Urban Thistle Farm, quickly found a solution. They reached out to a former AmeriCorps member who had previously worked with them and secured funding from the Zimmerman Family Foundation to cover the cost of hosting a new team of volunteers. The project, which aims to transform the farm into a food production facility, will now proceed with the new team arriving on May 5.
The partnership with the Zimmerman Family Foundation demonstrates the community’s resilience and dedication to continuing their mission of providing a local food solution for their neighbors in North Casper and beyond. The project, now funded and set to be completed over the summer, is a testament to the power of collaboration and determination in the face of unexpected challenges.
