July Target Date for Shooting Complex Board Estimates

Construction of Wyoming State Shooting Complex Set to Begin

CODY (WNE) — The Wyoming State Shooting Complex, located south of Cody, is poised to begin construction as early as July, following its inaugural meeting held by the joint powers board. The board, which has drafted a plan in collaboration with Ardurra Engineering, outlined initial steps that involve establishing an access road. Before this can commence, paleontological and archaeological evaluations must be conducted.

Board member James Klessens shared the group’s objectives, which include defining the project manager’s responsibilities and planning fundraising efforts to bridge a financial gap. To date, the project has secured $16 million in funding, comprising $10 million from the state and $6 million from local sources. Although additional funds may be available from state agencies, the project’s total cost of $19.5 million highlights the need for corporate and individual sponsors.

As the board prepares for its next meeting, leadership roles will be elected to facilitate official actions. Rep. Paul Hoeft, R-Powell, emphasized the importance of informing the public that operating the complex will not impose a tax burden on county residents and will support local shooting ranges. He expressed confidence that the facility will be self-sustaining, benefiting both shooters and local communities once operational.

The Wyoming State Shooting Complex aims to enhance shooting sports while contributing positively to the region’s economic activity.
