Governor Gordon to Honor Wyoming Veterans with ‘Welcome Home Day’ Events

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — In a heartfelt initiative, Governor Mark Gordon, in collaboration with the Wyoming Veterans Commission, will host ‘Veterans Welcome Home Day’ celebrations across the state on Saturday, May 10. The events aim to honor all Wyoming veterans, with a special focus on those from the Vietnam and Korean Wars, and others who may not have received the recognition they deserved upon returning home.

Four ceremonies will be held in different towns: Afton at the Afton Readiness Center at 8:45 a.m.; Riverton at the CWC Health & Science Building at 10:45 a.m.; Sheridan at The Hub on Smith at 1:15 p.m.; and Wheatland at the Platte Valley Bank Conference Center at 3:15 p.m. Each event will feature remarks from Governor Gordon, Maj. Gen. Greg Porter, the Adjutant General of Wyoming, and Ken Persson, Chairman of the Veterans Commission, along with other local officials and veterans.

The celebrations will include receiving lines, allowing community members to express gratitude to those who served. The Governor’s office encourages local communities to organize their own events to honor veterans who may have felt unrecognized in the past. This initiative emphasizes the importance of acknowledging the sacrifices made by service members and aims to foster a sense of unity and respect throughout Wyoming.
