Amnesty International Reports UAE Providing Sudanese Paramilitaries with Chinese Arms | National

Amnesty Alleges UAE-Backed Chinese Weapons Being Used by Sudanese Paramilitaries Amid Escalating Conflict

In a troubling revelation, Amnesty International has linked Chinese-made weapons supplied by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Sudan’s paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), amid escalating violence that has forced civilians to flee from the vital aid hub of Port Sudan. The British watchdog reported the paramilitaries’ use of sophisticated Chinese artillery and guided bombs as they continue their conflict with the regular army, now in its third year.

Amnesty’s findings cited recently captured weaponry, including Chinese GB50A guided bombs and AH-4 howitzers, detailing their deployment in the west and around Khartoum during key RSF operations. The UAE has consistently denied allegations of supplying the RSF, despite consistent claims from UN experts and US politicians.

The report emerges as RSF intensified drone attacks on army-controlled cities, targeting key facilities in Port Sudan, once considered a safe haven for displaced persons. UN chief Antonio Guterres warned that such assaults threaten to exacerbate the ongoing humanitarian crisis, with over 13 million people displaced due to the ongoing conflict.

Fleeing families describe chaos as bus tickets become scarce and they struggle to escape worsening conditions. The war has effectively divided Sudan, with the army controlling much of the north, while the RSF dominates Darfur and the south. As tensions rise, the situation remains dire, prompting urgent calls for international scrutiny and intervention.
