Pakistani Celebrities Criticize Bollywood’s Insensitive Celebration of Civilian Casualties – Commentary

Pakistan Unites in Grief and Fury After Indian Airstrikes

A wave of anguish has gripped Pakistan following late-night airstrikes by the Indian military on Wednesday, dubbed ‘Operation Sindoor’. These unprovoked strikes targeting several locations, including Sialkot and parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, resulted in the loss of 31 lives and left 57 injured, as reported by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). In retaliation, the ISPR claimed to have shot down 25 Indian drones.

The attacks have incited outrage across Pakistan, especially among celebrities who condemned the violation of sovereignty and the insensitivity shown by Indian public figures who celebrated the military actions. Notable Bollywood actors such as Akshay Kumar and Kangana Ranaut have been criticized for praising the Indian military and neglecting the innocent lives lost in the conflict.

Pakistani artists expressed their anguish online, with singer Hasan Raheem voicing his concerns over the celebration of civilian casualties. Actor Urwa Hocane accused Indian stars of hypocrisy, noting that no one celebrated the recent Pahalgam attack, despite Pakistan being wrongfully accused. Many celebrities are now advocating for a cultural boycott of Indian films and music, urging their followers to reconsider their admiration for Indian celebrities who remain silent amid this tragedy.

Hina Altaf, Humayun Saeed, and other prominent figures have rallied for unity in condemning aggression, emphasizing that while Pakistan seeks peace, it will not back down in the face of intimidation. The sentiment among the artistic community is clear: the loss of innocent lives can never be celebrated, and calls for solidarity are growing louder as the situation escalates.
