Wyoming Signs 6’8″ Forward Kiani Saxon from MWSU

Wyoming Cowboys Add New Talent with Kiani Saxon’s Commitment

LARAMIE — The Wyoming Cowboys have bolstered their basketball roster by securing a commitment from 6-foot-8 forward Kiani Saxon, marking the seventh transfer addition this offseason. Saxon, a New Zealand native, joins the Cowboys after a strong season at Missouri Western State, under the guidance of former coach Sundance Wicks.

In the 2022-23 season at MWSU, Saxon showcased his potential by averaging 8.1 points and 4 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 55% from the field. He was also known for his defensive prowess, registering 37 blocks and 13 steals in 30 games.

Coach Wicks praised Saxon’s physical style of play, noting his ability to impact games positively. "Kiani is tough, physical and constantly finds ways to impact winning… He has the opportunity to help our team immediately," he said.

Saxon adds to a growing list of this offseason’s transfers, including Buddy Hammer Jr. from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. The competition for playing time in the front court will be fierce, with returning players like Matija Belic and Abou Magassa, alongside newcomers Gavin Gores and Neil Summers.

This recruitment is part of a broader strategy by Wicks and his staff, who have also added several guards to strengthen the backcourt for the upcoming season. Freshman walk-on Garrett Spielman and a host of other transfers reflect the Cowboys’ commitment to building a competitive team ahead of the new season.
