Carrie Underwood Responds to Simon Cowell’s ‘Robotic’ Comment on ‘American Idol’ | Entertainment News

Carrie Underwood Reflects on Simon Cowell’s ‘Robotic’ Assessment of Her Performance

In a recent YouTube video from the #IdolToIcon series, Carrie Underwood addressed Simon Cowell’s infamous critique of her performance during Season 4 of "American Idol." Underwood, who ultimately won the season, performed "Bless the Broken Road," originally popularized by Rascal Flatts, during the Top 5 episode in 2005. Cowell acknowledged her vocal talent but deemed the performance "a little robotic."

Reflecting on Cowell’s feedback, Underwood candidly admitted, “He wasn’t wrong.” She explained that while she wanted to showcase her vocal abilities, the pressure of the competition led her to play it safe with a song she felt comfortable performing. “If I ever try to think too much about what I’m doing on stage, my vocals suffer,” she added.

Despite Cowell’s critique, other judges praised her performance. Randy Jackson described it as "another great, perfect performance," while Paula Abdul noted her concern about it being a "safe" choice but ultimately commended Underwood’s execution of the song.

Underwood humorously concluded her video with robot dance moves, quipping, “Does this look a little more robotic to you?” This light-hearted response highlights her growth from an aspiring contestant to a prominent figure in the music industry, while also showcasing her sense of humor about her past performances.
