Wyoming Cowboys Set to Clash with South Dakota State Jackrabbits in December Showdown
Laramie, Wyo. — The Wyoming Cowboys will meet the South Dakota State Jackrabbits for a highly anticipated basketball matchup on December 15 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Ticket sales will be announced at a later date.
This game marks a reunion for both head coaches: Wyoming’s Sundance Wicks and South Dakota State’s Bryan Petersen, who have ties to Heritage Court from their previous coaching roles. Wicks, now in his second year at Wyoming, was an assistant at Northern State from 2016 to 2018, while Petersen transitioned from assistant to head coach at SDSU this year after a successful six-year stint with the program.
“We’re excited to host this early season matchup,” said Jesse Smith, vice president of operations for Sanford Sports. “It’s a great chance to see two talented teams.” Wicks aims to build on a competitive last season, returning key players Matija Belic and Abou Magassa alongside promising newcomers.
Historically, Wyoming leads the series 5-1, with the Cowboys winning the last encounter in 2023. Petersen highlights the Jackrabbits’ depth, having nine returning players from a 20-12 season, including starters Matthew Mors and Kalen Garry.
“This will be a challenging non-conference test,” Petersen stated, looking forward to their matchup against the Cowboys. The game promises to be a memorable celebration of basketball in a premier venue.
