Gold Team Emerges Victorious in Annual Wyoming Spring Game

LARAMIE, Wyo. – The sun shone brightly over War Memorial Stadium on Saturday as the Wyoming Cowboys wrapped up their spring practice with the annual Spring Game, where the Gold Team triumphed over the Brown Team, 21-7.
Wyoming Head Coach Jay Sawvel emphasized the importance of the spring contest. “We needed to have a game today and get players out in a game rhythm,” he commented, appreciating the fans for their attendance and support.
The game kicked off with the Brown Team scoring first, as Dontae Burch found the end zone, propelled by an interception from linebacker Gary Rutherford. The Gold Team quickly responded, tying the game with Gage Brook’s touchdown pass to Bricen Brantley following a turnover by Brooklyn Cheek.
Entering halftime, the Gold Team maintained a lead with a touchdown pass from Landon Sims to tight end Isaac Schoenfeld, making it 14-7. In the second half, Sims connected with a teammate to solidify their victory at 21-7.
Sims led the Gold Team with an impressive 144 passing yards and two touchdowns. Nico Hamilton contributed significantly with 73 rushing yards, while Deion DeBlanc caught six passes for 48 yards. The defense shone, particularly Evan Eller, who recorded nine tackles and a sack.
On the Brown Team, Mason Drube threw for 175 yards, with Kaden Anderson completing 8 of 12 passes. Chris Durr Jr. made seven receptions, and Jaylen Sargent contributed with 79 receiving yards. Gary Rutherford stood out defensively with a game-high 11 tackles, bolstered by Dash Bauman, who also claimed a sack.
Fans are reminded that renewals for the 2025 football season tickets are currently open, with a deadline of April 4. New season ticket deposits can also be made through the Wyoming Athletics website.
