Tight Contest for Next Chairman of the Wyoming Republican Party

Candidates Prepare for Wyoming Republican Party Leadership Election

Wyoming’s Republican Party is set for a pivotal election on May 3, as two seasoned candidates vie for the position of state chair. Bryan Miller, a Sheridan resident, officially announced his candidacy on the “Just Blame Joey” podcast, confirming to Cowboy State Daily that he will challenge Rebecca Bextel, a Jackson resident who launched her campaign last fall. They are competing to succeed Frank Eathorne, who will not seek reelection.

Miller, who has over a decade of experience in state party politics and has served as the Sheridan GOP chair for the last seven years, emphasizes grassroots fundraising strategies. He has overseen a remarkable growth in local party involvement, boosting volunteer numbers from 40 to over 500. Miller aims to cultivate broader donor bases and believes his extensive party experience gives him an edge.

In contrast, Bextel, though newer to the party, has made a significant mark by raising $130,000 for the state party in just one year, alongside supporting individual candidates with around $450,000 for former President Trump’s campaign. As chair of the state party’s revenue committee, she aims to energize the party with her campaign, having already traversed 4,800 miles to connect with constituents across the state.

While both candidates share conservative views, they differ in approach and strategy. Miller criticizes Bextel’s recent legislative tactics, claiming they caused friction within the party, while Bextel asserts her aggressive fundraising and campaigning show her commitment and capability.

With endorsements forthcoming and strategies unfolding, both candidates express their commitment to unifying the party and engaging grassroots members in shaping its future. Their contest will define the party’s trajectory as Wyoming heads towards the next election cycle.
