Airbus Subsidiary Selects Aeva for 4D LiDAR Technology Partnership

Aeva Partners with Airbus UpNext to Revolutionize Aerospace with 4D LiDAR Technology

Aeva, a leading provider of perception and sensing systems, has been selected by Airbus UpNext to supply its cutting-edge 4D LiDAR technology for an innovative aerospace project known as Optimate. This initiative aims to enhance pilot support and decision-making through advanced automation.

Aeva’s state-of-the-art 4D LiDAR solution utilizes Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) sensing, enabling precise measurement of velocity and distance for each point in a scene. The technology stands out for its ability to deliver high-resolution data at distances of up to 500 meters, making it particularly suitable for the challenging environments of airport taxiways and runways.

The Optimate project will deploy this groundbreaking technology aboard an A350-1000 flight test aircraft and an electric truck, conducting extensive taxi operations at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport in France and another major international hub. Over several hundred hours of testing, Airbus UpNext will assess the efficacy of this sensor technology in real-world conditions.

Aeva’s CEO and Co-founder, Soroush Salehian, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, indicating that it showcases how their 4D LiDAR technology can significantly benefit the aviation sector. Beyond aerospace, Aeva aims to introduce next-generation perception systems across multiple industries, including automated driving, industrial robotics, consumer health, consumer electronics, and security.

As the aviation landscape evolves, partnerships like this one between Aeva and Airbus UpNext could pave the way for safer, more intelligent operations throughout the industry, further solidifying the importance of advanced sensing technologies in aviation and beyond.
