Strong Start for High School Softball at 307 Invitational in Wyoming

CHEYENNE, Wyo. – The 307 Invitational showcased high school softball despite challenging weather conditions, including gusty winds of up to 50 mph. The event saw thrilling matchups as teams battled both each other and the elements over the opening weekend.

Sheridan vs. South: Sheridan set the pace with a swift 2-0 lead, quickly extending it to 3-0 with an Emma Meyer score. Despite a solid performance from South’s pitcher Charleigh Mellish, who recorded six strikeouts, Sheridan’s offense surged in the fourth inning. Key hits from Taylin Hatch and Meyer combined with a triple from Emerson Kelley propelled Sheridan to a commanding 9-0 lead, ultimately finishing the game at 9-3, marking a positive start at 1-2-1 for Sheridan.

East vs. Jackson: The Thunderbirds from East dominated Jackson, beginning with nine consecutive balls that resulted in two runners on base. East scored 11 runs in the first inning, highlighted by a triple from Riley Petruso. The game concluded early due to a no-hitter and a 15-0 shutout, as Petruso struck out six batters in a stellar performance.

Worland vs. Laramie: Laramie took control early, with Rachael Dean and Amanda Kricken contributing to a hefty 8-0 lead. Kricken allowed only one hit while registering seven strikeouts as Laramie’s offense continued to roll, ending the game 18-1.

Kelly Walsh vs. East: In a tightly contested match, East prevailed 6-4, with notable performances from McKenzie Millar and Rylee Stephenson, who both hit home runs. East wrapped up the weekend undefeated at 4-0.

The 307 Invitational not only marked the beginning of the softball season but also underscored the resilience and talent of Wyoming’s young athletes.
