Laceyville Greenlights Liquor Sales – Wyoming County Examiner

Press Article: Key Election Results in Wyoming County’s May 20 Primary

The May 20 primary drew significant attention in Wyoming County, particularly surrounding the new second judge seat in the 44th Judicial District. However, other local races and ballot decisions were also made, reflecting the political pulse of the community.

In Laceyville, a pivotal ballot question regarding liquor licenses garnered widespread support from residents. Despite Pennsylvania’s closed primary system limiting party nominees to registered Republicans and Democrats, all voters in Laceyville participated. In an unofficial count, 31 residents voted in favor, while 26 opposed the measure, reflecting a strong desire for local liquor sales in the borough of 363 residents.

The competitive landscape for county offices revealed that the treasurer’s race was the only contested contest. Judy Barziloski from Tunkhannock secured the Republican nomination with 2,514 votes, significantly outpacing Carol Bardzel from Falls, who received 1,152 votes. Barziloski, a field assessor for the county and president of the Northeast Chapter of Assessors Association of Pennsylvania, highlighted her dedication to community service during previous candidate forums.

Incumbent Treasurer Patricia Crandall Mead did not seek reelection, leaving 110 write-in votes recorded but no Democratic candidates on the ballot. Both District Attorney Joe Peters and Coroner Collin Lunger were unopposed in the Republican primary, with no Democratic contenders.

Voter turnout for the primary stood at 34.4%, with a total of 5,512 ballots cast among the 16,035 registered voters across 29 precincts in Wyoming County. Results for municipal and school board contests, along with the judge and county offices, can be found on the Wyoming County elections webpage.
