Youthful Teams Gear Up for Competitive Season in District 2 Football
As the 2024 football season approaches, several District 2 teams are making strides to reshape their rosters and strategies following last year’s challenges.
Berwick Bulldogs, under Head Coach CJ Curry, are poised for a fresh start after dropping to Division 2 and moving into the 3A classification. With a 3-8 record last season, they face the tough task of replacing key skill position players. However, the Bulldogs’ offensive line remains a strong asset, returning four starters, and Coach Curry is optimistic about the team’s collective growth and culture change.
Hanover Area, led by Jason Majiros, returns six starters on both offense and defense after a 3-8 record last year. The team’s focus will be on developing young talents, including sophomore standout Deacon Eisenback, while the offensive line’s performance will be crucial for their success.
The Lake-Lehman Black Knights, guided by Jerry Gilsky, are looking to capitalize on their returning talent, including quarterback Hayden Evans and wideout Chris Sholtis. They aim to build on last season’s 2-9 record to foster a competitive spirit among players.
Nanticoke, with Coach Scott Dennis at the helm, faces the challenge of replacing a significant number of graduated seniors. Despite this, veterans like quarterback Michael Stachowiak and running backs Eugene Gyle and Treston Allen offer a glimmer of hope for a successful season following their 7-5 record last year.
Tunkhannock, improving under Coach Pat Keating, aims for a playoff berth after last season’s 4-6 record. The returning starters on offense and defense signal potential growth for the Tigers.
Lastly, Wyoming Area, transitioning to 3A after a successful 10-2 season, retains key players like quarterback Anthony DeLucca and veteran lineman Chase DeSanto. Coach Randy Spencer is focused on developing depth and team leadership to build on their past achievements.
With a mix of returning talent and eager newcomers, District 2 teams are set for an exciting season ahead.
